In short
Cogno works locally. Your commands, terminal output, files and settings never leave your computer. The only connection Cogno makes on its own is the check for updates. While doing so we count anonymously which versions run on which platforms. We do not store IP addresses or an identifier of your installation, and we use no cookies or trackers.
Update checks in the app
On start and then roughly every six hours, Cogno asks dl.cogno.rocks whether a new version is
available. The request contains:
- the installed version of Cogno,
- the operating system (Windows, macOS or Linux) and the processor architecture,
- the package type of the installation (for example installer, AppImage, deb or rpm),
- the update channel (release or development).
For technical reasons the server also receives your IP address. We do not store it; only the country is derived from it. For each request we store one anonymous count made of the details above, the country and the time. It cannot be traced back to you as a person.
The purpose is to deliver security and bug fixes to you and to understand which versions and platforms are still in use. The legal basis is our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
You can turn update checks off at any time: set feature.updater.mode = off in your configuration.
Cogno then no longer connects to dl.cogno.rocks.
Downloads
Cogno and its updates are delivered through dl.cogno.rocks. For each download we count
anonymously the version, platform, package type, country, whether it is an update (and from which version) and
the time. IP addresses are not stored here either.
Service provider: Cloudflare
